Monarchs Teach Drexel Hill a Harsh Lesson

They called the football scrimmage played yesterday at Penn Wood Middle School in Darby a clash for the ages, epic, monumental & maybe even historic.  Why??  Because the Bert Bell Memorial Football Conference routinely ducks or avoids Delaware Valley Pop Warner.  Finally, yes finally, the Drexel Hill Raiders bucked the trend and for the first time ever challenged the rugged Delco Monarchs.  I texted there head coach last week Coach Greg said and to my surprise he responded and they showed up on time.

As far as the contest, the Monarchs got the ball first and drove right down the field, unimpeded, as if they were out for an afternoon stroll.  It was all down hill from there, for Drexel Hill and the 100 plus fans who braved the heat interested in this over hyped scrimmage because the Monarchs would go on to blanked the  Raiders 30 - 0.  We simply imposed our will tonight Coach Tone shouted from the sidelines.  We got them off balance and we kept them off balance.   They stacked the line of scrimmage, we hit them with the deep ball.  They backed up and played zone we ran the ball up the gut.  Its football 101, Monarchs skipper Greg James barked.

The Monarchs were lead on offense by quarterback TJ. Harmon ( 4-6, 120 yards 2 TD's 1 Int. ) and halfback A Gleplay ( 5 rushes 105 yards 2 TD's ).  The defense was led by A. Thollie, I. McKnight, G. Subah to name a few.  I was satisfied with our effort tonight Coach Greg said afterwards even though we left some points on the table.  I'm very very proud of my kids especially because this was there first contest and you never know what to expect.  They rose to the occasion and dismantled a sound football team.

The Monarchs will host a jamboree this Saturday with West Philly Panthers and 84th Street Wolves. The scrimmage will start a 10AM.  The 170's will be on the road in Delaware against the No Limit Hurricanes.  Game time is 6:30PM

Monarchs Run Past South Philly

Yesterday, the Delco Monarchs opened preseason play on the road with the always dangerous and always talented South Philly Hurricanes from Liberty Pop Warner.  The undersized but disciplined Monarchs quickly proved that size does not matter as they coasted past the 'Caines 30 - 0. I was genuinely concerned on the trip over there Coach Greg said afterwards because I knew we were young and I did not know what to expect from my team especially in a hostile environment with so many spectators.  If I had to guess, it was at least two hundred people out there yelling and screaming "Go Hurricanes" but it had no affect on the Monarchs as they scored early and often.

I knew we had them in warm ups one of the parents said.  We were loud and in sync and I noticed a lot of Hurricanes players looking over at us.  When told what this parent said, Coach Greg responded "Warm Ups" don't win games, players do!  You can yell and scream all you want, its not going to help you tackle or score points.  The bottom line is this, today we were just a little better than them.

The Monarchs were led on offense by quarterback E. Musue. He went 3 for 5 with 100 yard passing and two touchdowns.  Halfback, T. Harmon also chipped in with 4 carries and 70 yards and two touchdowns while rookie tight end E. Freeman tallied his first career touchdown.  The Monarchs defense stood tall and rose to the occasion as they held the 'Caines scoreless.  When asked about the defensive effort, Coach Tone shouted the Monarchs win games with "Character and Cruelty" and as for the "Caines, truth be told, its just another game on the schedule.  Now, its time to pack the kids up and get them back to Darby before there parents start calling and asking where there children are at.   After that, the coaches will watch film and see what we did wrong.

Next week, the Monarchs will host the Drexel Hill Raiders (Bert Bell) and the West Philly Panthers (Liberty).  Both games are scheduled to be played at the Moose.

LETS GO MONARCHS!!!!!

No Promises from the Top Coach

Well folk's, its that time of year to talk football, Delco Monarchs Football to be exact.  so we stopped by Monarchs Mini Camps to talk to the Monarchs skipper to get his prospective on the 2013 football season.  Well as always, its a struggle coach Greg said, it a struggle to get kids out here especially when you are surrounded by other organizations with more history but not necessary greatness.  They do a lot of trashing talking in "Dodge City" aka Darby Boro but we know the real deal Coach Tone the newly appointed lieutenant said.  Quiet as kept, we roughed up quiet a few Delco teams last year and the so called beef with the team on the other side of Main Street is not a beef because we never played and we never will.  We are not interested playing kids from the same town and in the same school district.  If we were smart, we would combine and bring Darby back to what it use to be in football  which was a powerhouse.  And those who know there history, the team was know as the Darby-Colwyn Rams.

Now with that being said, let get into this season.  The Monarchs are loaded at the skill positions and have a number of kids returning on each weight class.  The 105's are led by E. Gleplay, C. Soe, top new comer AJ Madden Jr.  Meanwhile, the 120's are led by E.Musue, T. Harmon, N. Brooker , G. Flahn.  The 145's are led by M. Saccoh, M. Starchia Jr., N. Butts, and top new comer A. Wood.  Lastly, the 170's are lea by TJ Harmon, A. Gleplay, A Wagay, and Z. Sheriff to name a few. In my opinion, we are loaded with talent but we may lack the discipline needed to be champs of our league.  I could be wrong.  Matter, I hope I'm wrong but we will be tested soon enough as the rugged West Philly Panthers and South Philly Hurricanes (Liberty Pop Warner) are scheduled to pay the Monarchs a visit this year.  Also, the Drexel Hill Raiders (Bert Bell ) supposedly inquired about some work.

Lastly, there are some new faces roaming the monarchs bench this year.  Gone is Coach Gene, who moved on to the Keystone Stone Oilers.  Added is Coach Ron and Coach Tim.  Coach Ron use to coach semi-pro and he brings mental toughness and work ethic to the fold. Coach Tim, played college ball a Wesley College and he will be in charge of getting the monarchs linemen in shape and ready to work.

Let See What Happens!!!!!!
