Ruling From the Deputy Commissioner 10/22/09

Hello to all. This is a letter from the desk of the Deputy Commissioner of Delaware Valley Pop Warnter Football. Unforunately, this season has been a very diffcult one with plenty of trials and tribulations. A few of our organizations have violated a number of different rules. All said to be in error. Ignorance isn't a defense and neither is misguided or misinformed information. I am left to make a very difficult decision. In all my years in dealing with youth, I have never came across a situation quite like this where a major decision will impact the playing lives of so many children. Please realize my decision is based soley on the rules as I will not benefit in any way and neither will my organization. I have always and will always be as fair as I can. In order for us to grow and become a complete and competive league on and off the field ALL RULES MUST BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO!

After investigations done by numerous individuals (none of which is me) the organizations weight classes are ineligible for the 2009 Pop Warner playoffs and regional play.

1. The Trojans 90's through 160's are ineligible for adding players to each roster after the league mandated date of 9-15 yearly. The player added on the 75's is not allowed to play but the 75's can participate because there really isn't a champion at the tiny mite class.

2. The Dynasty 135's & 160's are ineligible due to having 3 players 2 on there 160's and one on te 135's that are full participants on the South West Jaguars Middle School team which is a team made up of Penrose Elementary and Pepper Middle School.

3. The Cougars 105's are ineligible due to adding one player on the team after the league mandated cut off date.

4. The Jaguars are ineligible due to the neglegency of roster approval and adding players after 9-15.

5. The Saints 90's, 105's and 135's are ineligible due to the lack of roster approval also.

These infractions are verified and true. The Board has proof of each infraction. These decisions are not personally motivated it is the nature of the league. Please govern yourselves accordingly as a playoff schedule will be forwarded to Crump and the league official by 7pm today

FINES & SUSPENSIONS ARE HANDED DOWN

During yesterday's league meeting, it was discovered that two organization had ineligible players participating on there 2009 football rosters. These players were considered ineligible because they were added to a team roster after the September 15th mandatory cut off date. Because of these rules violations, these organizations 2009 football season will be forfeited and they will not be allowed to participate in the 2009 Del -Val playoffs or regional competition. Please contact your team president or head coach to find out if your organization has been suspended.

To the Monarchs fans and players, we were not on the list.

LIKE I SAID BEFORE, CHEATERS NEVER WIN!!!!! (Hint, Hint!!!)

Chester Trips Up Monarchs 135's & 160's

Yesterday, on a day when mother nature did not want to cooperate, the high powered Chester Township Cougars made the short trip down I-95 to take on the always competitive Delco Monarchs. As with most city teams, they came with a lot of noise, but there bark was louder than there bite.

Chester's 135's, who blew out the Dynasty Dragons (40 -6) & the Upper Darby Trojans (24 - 0) the last two weeks, found themselves in another dog fight with the Monarchs after scoring with relative ease on there first offensive possession. We pretty much bottled them up again like I thought we would Coach Greg said. Its just ashame we could not get on track offensively for the second week in a row. The weather played a big part today but to be honest, Chester has some really good athletes and there pretty good open field tacklers. Bottom line.

Offensively, we knew Chester wanted to throw the ball around a little bit, but after scouting them we noticed that there quarterback was not accuate and does not pass with authority. Like most 13 years olds, he kinda just throws the ball up and there athletes catch it Coach Tone said. There a high octaine and quick scoring type of team and we basically shut them down today. They scored twice and we gave them two points Coach Alex said matter of factly.

As far as the Monarchs go, I proud of my kids Coach Greg said. I like the way they compete. We are a hard noise, blue colar, bring your lunch box to work type of football team. I know it and the league knows it. We will play you anywhere, fair and square. And we don't cheat. No ringers, no high school players, no switching jersey's and no illegal players or rosters. Say what you want, the DELCO MONARCHS ARE LEGIT!!!!!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the 160's game between the Cougars and Monarchs, it was more of the same after a contraversial weigh - in. At halftime of the 135 game, Chester's coach indicated to Coach Greg that he only had 16 players and one of them was over weight. As per Pop Warner Rules, if you have 15 players, its an automatic forfeit because you don't have the mandatory amount of players to play the game. During the weigh-in, the over weight kid was deemed ineligible but mircalously they found another kid to make sixteen. Who or where this other kid came from beats the hell out of me Coach Greg said. Chester is a good ten to twenty miles away and at least a twenty minute ride from Darby. YOU DO THE MATH??????

As far as the game is concerned, it was another dog fight. After a scoreless first half, Chester marched down the field on there first second half offensive possession. They ultimately scored when they caught the Monarchs defense blitzing. Chester ran a simple sweep to the right and manage to get around our cornerback and outside linebacker. Thats what happens when you blitz Coach Greg said. You give up something.

Just like the 135's, the Monarchs 160's offense was unable to get on track too. It was a struggle to gain positive yardage all day. We just could not get going. Bottom line. Then, Chester tacked on a late touchdown after Sam Korti fumble the ball in the endzone and that pretty much sealed the fate of the Monarchs. After another Monarchs fumble, like good sportsman, Chester took a knee late in the forth quarter and let the game clock expire to end the contest.

But guess what folks, the playoffs start next week and the battle tested Monarchs 135's and 160's are in. The official schedule will be announced on Tuesday. The 135's should be visiting the Dragons and the 160's will visit the Cougars. GAME TIME IS TO BE ANNOUNCED!!!!!

Monarchs Run Over Matadors

Sometimes statistics lie. Sometimes they don't. Yesterday, facing the winless Yeadon Matadors, the statistics did not lie as the Monarchs ran wild in front of the home fans in neighboring Darby Borough. Marquise Moody ( 6 carries 105 yards ) and Joey "Big Joe" Zahnee led the way with two touchdowns apiece. Marquise's touchdown runs covered 40 and 60 yards repectively while Big Joey bullied his way into the end zone with TD runs of 2 and 8 yards. Quarterback Sam Korti joined the party too as he rushed for nearly 70 yards and a touchdown as the Monarchs coasted to a 34 - 0 victory.

There wasn't much for Coach Greg James to gripe about after whipping the Matadors yesterday. The Monarchs scored on every offensive posession and the defense led by Alvis Strocen and newcomer Walter Freeman was up to its usually stingy self. But, for the record, Coach Greg did chose two "stupid penalties" to briefly harp on. Of which, one of those penalities resulted in a 50 yard touchdown pass to Emanual Jaidah being called back. Coach Mark cautioned the kids not to get "Big Heads" because things came easy for them today straight up. We just can't afford to get over confident for real especially with the Eastwick Dynasty Dragons and the Chester Township Cougars looming on our schedule. The Matadors were just a tune up bottom line.

FYI players, parents and fans, no matter how well a team performs, coaches always look for improvement. It's just their nature. Without that basic instinct, success would elude them.

Next week, the Monarchs organization will travel to the league powerhouse and reigning 90lb & 135lb king pin the Eastwick Dynasty Dragons. This ought to be interesting contest Coach Greg said. They roughed us up pretty good last year so we are definitely looking foward to returning the favor especially at there homecoming. I'm not one for bulleting board material Coach Jamil said, but they should not have invited us. We want to crash the party all day.

GAME TIME IS AS FOLLOWS: 90'S @ 10AM, 105'S @ 12noon, 135'S @ 2PM and 160'S @ 4PM. The Dragons are located at 69th and Groovers.

AND IF YOUR COMING TO THE GAME, BE SURE TO ROCK YOU PURPLE & GOLD TEE SHIRTS AND THE DYNASTY KNOW THAT THE MONARCHS ARE OFFICALLY IN THE HOUSE.....

Trojans Use Ringers to Defeat Monarchs

A ringer is a player that enters a competition under false representation. An example of ringer is a player that is overweight, over age for a particular weight class or a player who is currently participating / competing at the high school level while playing little league. Yesterday, the Upper Darby Trojans used various combinations of these types of players to defeat the Monarchs. The Monarchs 135's were handed a 20 - 6 set back while the Monarchs 160's losted 21 - 7.

The Trojans, who boldly predicted that they would defeat the Monarchs on a local radio station, lived up to there notorious reputation as cheaters. I knew some thing was up at the weigh-in Coach Greg said. They (the Trojans Coaches) wanted to conduct the weigh-in without being properly equipped. As per Pop Warner Rules, all weigh-ins should be conducted in full equipment except for the helmet. The Trojans requested to be weigh-in without jerseys on and the ruckus between the two organization began, there. It was a heated debate at the scale by both head coaches. My objection was simple Coach Greg said, (1) clothes add weight and (2) we would not know who the hell weighed in. Bottom Line... Then, during this illegal weigh-in, we tagged a Trojan player as being overweight. Once we indicated he could not play, the agrument started. Needless to say, this over weight player played in the game anyway. What's the point of having a scale or even weigh-in , Coach Alex barked???

This behavior continued in the 160's game too. No player had on a jersey at the weigh-in and four Trojan players did not make weight, but manged to sneak in the game anyway. Also, three other Trojan players (#8, #22 & #20) of which one plays high school football simply did not bother to weigh-in at all. Conincidently, they managed to play too. It took a while Coach Alex said, but we figured they started cheating late in the second quarter. We shut them down on there first 3 offensive possession, then all of a sudden, BAM!!!!! we could not tackle them. It was taking 3 or 4 Monarchs players to bring down one Trojan player down (specifically # 8 & # 20). It was so obvious it wasn't even funny one parent indicated. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what was going on Coach Gene said matter of factly.

What we had out there yesterday was complete mess Coach Greg said empathically!!!! However, its what I have come to expect with the Upper Darby Trojans. They must think were stupid or something???? They do this every year. They'll do anything thing win a stink'n ball game. That organization has no class at all. And, at the end of the day it catches up to them at the regional level. They go every year and they either get disqualified or lose in the first round.

Message to the Trojans: CHEATERS NEVER WIN!!!

Monarchs 135's Settle for a Tie...

Somebody's "O" was suspposed to go in last Saturday's contest between the Monarchs and the Chester Township Cougars. Neither's did not that day anyway. Instead, both organizations settled for a tie. The final score was 12 - 12.

I'm not pleased at all Coach Greg said.. But on the flip side, I'm not totally dissatisfied either. I merely loathe ties. How is it that in a battle you say let's throw away our weapons and call it a tie?? Both teams resembled that remark and now they both have a symbol of apathy to show for it in the standings 1-0-1.

The Chester Township Cougars, the newcomers to Delaware Valley Pop Warner, did there best to impress and tried to show the Monarchs that their 21-12 upset of the Upper Darby Trojans two weeks ago was not a fluke. I figured they would be good Coach Greg said. They are recruiting kids from all over the city of Chester and there is bound to be some football talent down there somewhere even though Chester is known for its high school basketball program.

With that being said, the Cougars jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, after the Monarchs opening possession stalled at the 50 yard line. The Monarchs tied the game on a efficient but time consuming drive on there next offensive possession. Newcomers George Korti did the honors with a 5 yard touchdown run late in the first quarter. Chester subsequently took a 12 - 6 lead on there next offensive possession. On the ensuing kick off, George Korti scampered 70 yards to notch the score at 12 apiece.

It was a dogfight from there with neither team backing down. Chester was fast but the Monarchs were physicial coach Greg said matter of factly. And once we adjusted to there speed and starting smacking them around a little bit Chester's pulse slowed considerably. After the game, Coach Gene barked "this is unfinished business today" and "we will see these guys again down the road". Bottom Line...

Next week the Monarchs will be home against league rivial the Upper Darby Trojans. As always this will be a heated contest. This is the first time in four years that the Trojans will visit "The Moose". Game times are as follows: 90's = 10am, 105's = 12noon, 135's = 2pm and 160's = 4pm.

Come Out and Support the home team!!!!!! Also, be sure to rock your purple or gold Monarchs tee shirts. FYI, IF YOU DON'T HAVE ONE, GET ONE!!!! THEY ARE ONLY $10 BUCKS...

Monarchs Roll Over Saints 34 - 6

By any measuring stick, the grades for the Monarchs opening day 34-6 win over the Saints should go down as as incomplete considering the caliber of the its opponent. The Saints are just in there second year of Pop Warner Football while the Monarchs are beginning there sixth year of competition.

With that being said the Monarchs next opponent, the Clifton Height Jaguars aren't expected to provide much more of a test then the Saints. The Jaguars just the like the Saint are also in there second year of existence. The biggest thing with new organizations is trying to figure out what offensive and defensive system they use. Sometimes its hard especially if we don't get a chance to scout them but its funny though because a lot of new teams come into this league with the mind set that they are going to dominate right away but it does happen. Then they find out very soon how competitve the Del - Val league really is.

Last Saturday, the Saints found out the hard way as they were rudely welcomed to the league. Newcomer George Korti led the way with a six touchdown performance as the Monarchs pounded the Saints with a relentless ball controlled attack. We got our running game going early and often Coach Greg said. And when they put eight men in the box to stop the run we went to the air. It was just a good day.

Defensively, the Monarchs were up to there usually stingy self. Kids were flying all over the place making plays. But most of all there was a lot of gang tackling going on out there today which is always good thing. And, we only had one mental breakdown today Coach Mark said. A Saint's receiver managed to get behind the coverage which set up there lone touchdown of the day. Other then that, it was a rap. We got a lot of pressure on them today Coach Greg said. And overall, it was a good way to start the season.

Monarchs 135's Take Down Panthers 6 - 0

I guess the old say'n an "Eye for an Eye" has some validity, as the Monarchs looked to redeem the poor showing the 160's had at 57th and Vine Streets yesterday. The coaching staff put a bug in all the players ear prior to the short trip from Darby to West Philly and again during warm ups. And, it was evident from the first possession that the Monarchs meant business as they bullied the smaller Panthers. To be honest Coach Alex said, the biggest difference between today and yesterday was that the Monarchs committed no turnovers. We held on to the ball today and played smash mouth football. Plain and simple.

Actually, the Monarchs took the ball and ran it right down the throats of there former league foe. The offense looked pretty good today Coach Mark said. Newcomers George Korti (RB), Glycedo Artis (FB), and Ta-Shawn Stringfield led the way. George had 5 carriers for 50 yards and a touchdown, Glycedo had three punishing runs for 15 yards and Ta-Shawn had two receptions 25 yards. And that was all that was needed as the Monarchs pounded out a 6 - 0 road victory.

As good as the offense looked, the defense looked even better. Defensive tackle Romello Johnson was all over the place and led the team with 8 solo tackles. Today just as yesterday, the Monarchs bottled up the dive plays, stayed on home on the misdirection plays, and picked off the Panthers lone pass attempt. Just like the rapper Ice Cube said, "Today was A Good Day".

I was proud of my boys today Coach Greg said. They were determined and focused on getting the job done. And from a coaching standpoint, it was mission accomplished. Also, they did not let the Panthers crowd take them out of there zone. It was a good road test for the kids especially playing in hostile territory with the crowd right on the field like that. Besides, the Panthers are always tough.

The 135's are right back in action tomorrow as they face the Kingsessing Roadrunners who are also a member of Liberty Pop Warner. This rivalry started two years ago and it should be interesting because the Monarchs 120's spanked the Roadrunners 120's last year. I'm looking forward to this Coach Greg said. Game time is set for 6:30pm at the Moose.

Panthers Prove Monarchs are Human...

After dismantling the Red Raiders of Coatesville last Saturday, it had become a little diffcult to image the Monarchs actually losing a game this season. Plain & simple the Monarchs looked virtually invincible against Coatesville. But football always humbles those teams who appear temporarily above failure. And last night, it was the Monarchs turn to look human. Quarterback Shaquilla "Shaq" Singletary was intercepted three times and two of his miscues resulted in Panther touchdowns. Add in two more fumbles / mistakes by newcomer George Korti and it turned into a long night for the entire Monarchs coaching staff.

"Sooner or later your going to have a tough game" said Monarchs Head Coach Greg James. That's football.... And that's exactly why I scheduled the West Philly Panthers. I knew they were big, physical and aggressive. And I wanted to see how my kids would react under pressure. Needless to say, I was a little disappointed with all the mistakes on offense but we held our own defensively. The Monarchs traditional stingy defense appeared to be in mid season form and caused the Panthers to turned the ball over on three separate occasions. Except for a broken play that resulted in the third and final Panther touchdown, the Monarchs defense kept the Panthers power I offense in check the entire night.

This was merely a speed bump Coach Greg said. Bottom line. We got some more work to do when we get back to Darby. The quarterback has to do a better job at recognizing what the defense is giving us. Then, we need to take advantage of the opportunities that are presented in order for us to win ballgames. It's just that simple. That's football 101.

The 160's will be off tomorrow, while the 135's will travel to the West Philly Panthers for the first and only scrimmage. Obviously, we want to do a little better than the 160's did Coach Mark said. Couple that with the fact that Liberty Pop Warner teams don't respect Delaware Valley Pop Warner teams and you got the formula for another heated battle. Hopefully, the young Monarchs will be up for the test. Game time is set for 6:30pm. And the Panthers are located on 57th and Vine Street.

Come out and support Monarch Football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monarchs Dismantle Coatesville 30 - 12

On a day in which potential rain and thunderstorms was predicted, mother nature eased up just enough to allow the Coatesville Red Raiders and the Delco Monarchs begin there 2009 football season. Albeit just a scrimmage, it still was an opportunity to get some work in according to coach Greg. Really, we lucked into this contest. Coach Stacy from the Darby Township Eagles set up it for us. He made a couple of phone calls and it was a done deal.

The Monarchs quickly showed there superiority to the visiting red raiders from Bert Bell Memorial Football Conference. On the first play from scrimmage Alvis Strocen slipped a Coatesville defender for a forty yard pass from newcomer Shaquilla "Shaq" Singletary. Two plays later Shaq hit Alvis in the end zone for the first score of the day. One the Monarchs next possession, Shaq hit Jaleel McMillian on a 30 yard catch and run which resulted in the Monarchs second score of the day.

Coatesville got right back into the contest with a 40 yard sweep off tackle for a touchdown. They caught us blitzing, Coach Greg said. And they took advantage of the opportunity that present itself when committing so many people to the line of scrimmage. After that play, the Monarchs defense tightened up. Coatesville gained very little positive yardage on the ground. And when they went to the air, Jaleel picked off a pass over the middle and proceeded to take it to the house before the play was blown dead.

One the Monarchs next offensive series, fullback Joey "Big Joe" Zahnee was unleashed. Big Joe had three straight carries of which the last resulted in another Monarch touchdown. That kid is just a load Coach Greg said. I'd hate to have to tackle him myself. His second carrier was just unbelieveable. Joey ran over two would be Coatesville tacklers before finally getting tripped up at the 2 yard line. All in all, it was a good day. I like how we competed, but there is definitely some things we need to work on. I'll look at the tape tonight or tomorrow and will make the necessary adjustment.

The Monarchs 160's get a much need rest on Sunday. But this Monday, it gets a little more interesting as the West Philly Panthers from Liberty Pop Warner pay the Monarchs a visit. Game time is set for 6:30pm at the Moose.

Monarchs Scoring Summary
A. Strocen 5 yard pass from S. Singletary
J. McMillian 30 yard pass from S. Singletary
J. McMillian 60 yard interception return
J. Zahnee 2 yard run
J. McMillian 5 yard run

Battles 4 Postions are Brewing?

Its only the second day of practice in full equipment but some position battles have emerged in the Monarchs training camp. For example M. Steele vs J. Zahnee (160), A. Gleplay vs E. Sheppard III (105), E. Gleplay vs S Pratt (90) and M. Moody vs A. Strocen (160) just to name a few. Yes sir, it was some serious contact out there Assistant Coach Gene said.

In each case, the underdogs / new players are fighting for playing time while some veterans try to coast through training camp off of last year's performances. Well, its not going to happen Coach Greg said. And some players are going to be in for a rude awakening when they find themselves on the bench or only playing because of the mandatory play rule. Its just that simple. And to be perfectly honest, I'm a little disappointed when players miss practice for bogus reasons. If we (the coaching staff ) are out there in the rain or heat, than so should our players. How do you expect to play if you don't practice? The more repetitions in practice, the better the player will become. That's the bottom line.

Still, it's fair to say the Monarchs are a little ahead of schedule this year. Why? Because we gave out our equipment on August 1st and the turnout was very very positive Coach Greg said. Right now we have over forty kids in pads and we usually carry about seventy-five to eighty kids a year. Our numbers are slightly up but, if your still interested in playing this year there is still time to sign up. So come up and check us out.

Below are some of the players that are missing in action.

T. Bruce (135), K. Cryor (135), J. McMillian (160), D. May (105), A. Morris (105), D. Douglas (90), R. Coles (90), X. Stevenson (90), G. Artis (135), J. River (160) and N. Baker (135).

Coaches Corner...

Rasheed Coles' GAME FACE!!!

With football season right around the corner, its obviously time to talk. Below are what the coaches are saying upon being interviewed.

Coach Greg said... When you look at the big picture, the first thing that jumps out at me is that we are really really young. The good thing about being young is that you will get a lot of kids coming back. It could be scary at 90lbs & 105lbs. We have a lot of talent in those weight classes. Our 135lbs & 160lbs should be decent too. Other than that mums the word until practice officially begins...

Coach Gene said... I still got a bad taste in my mouth from last years 33-15 set back to the Dynasty in the playoffs. They gave us the business twice. We just did not match up with them at all. But this year is going to be a different story... Trust & Believe in the Monarch Nation... I just think its our time. We are waiting for the schedule to come out so that we can circle the date.

Coach Jamil said... Ain't no rap this year.... 4 Real.. I love to talk to you but I'm not the one for bulletin board material. Plus yall already know who are rivals are anyway.. We handed out a few beat good ole fashion butt whooping last year and we took a few. Its the name of the game. We are just trying to hand out more than we take....

Oh yeah we got new team in the league from Chester... Word is Chester thinks this league is sweet. But guess what this ain't basketball dude... They might come wit a little something because they are a spin off of the Brookhaven Jets. But on the flip side of things this ain't DELCO Football. THIS IS THE DEL-VAL... THIS IS POP WARNER... AND ANY GIVEN SATURDAY ITS ON!!!!!! NEED I SAY MORE?????

STAY TUNED!!!!!

Hang'n Wit The Monarch Moms

Q. Brown & K. Ward pose for the camera. Both parents have children returning on the 90lb team which finished the year 3-3-1.

A future Monarch rubs his eyes, while other parents look on...

R. Farmer takes time out to pose for the camera while another parent takes an obviously important phone call.

Parent participation is critical to the success of any youth organization. The Monarchs would like to thank the above parents and all other parents and volunteers for there continued support. You make coaching your children a little bit easier.
Thank you Coach Greg....

Spring Football 2009

Well well folks, its that time of year again when people in the community begin talking football. Delaware County Football.. More specifically DELCO MONARCHS FOOTBALL... AKA THE MONARCH NATION.

Coach Greg and team president / owner Darius Taylor know what people are saying??? The Monarchs can't compete with the Colwyn Comets, the 69th Street Wildcats or Penn Wood Middle School when it comes to recruiting kids. The Monarchs should fold, they'll never be successful. Well, six years in, the Monarchs are still here and proving there critics wrong. Me and Darius talk all the time about the past, the present and the future of the organization Coach Greg said. I think we got a good grasp of what it will take. And while winning is important, it's also crucial to reach out to these kids and teach them lessons they'll take with them in life. Plain and simple, its more than just football Darius said.

I know being a head coach will come with headaches, tons of paper work, sighs of frustration and the occasional phone call from a player or a player's parent. I know what to expect Coach Greg said. And so does Darius. We are just bracing for what going to happen next. Were still taking baby steps but we can both see the progress. The good thing about us is we are no longer under the radar. The kids know who we are now. And we are starting to receive some much need support from the school district and the community.

Its crazy. I get kids knocking on my door all the time new assistant Coach Gene said. Especially since its getting warn. Sometimes they want to talk. Sometimes they bring new players to sign-up. Other times they ask to borrow a football so they can play catch or a game at the "Moose" which is our home field. I can tell football season is around the corner.

COME OUT & GET INVOLVED. THE FUTURE BEGINS HERE....
