Monarchs Get Rude Awakening In Lansdale

On Saturday , the Delco Monarchs stepped out of conference and challenged the Lansdale Cannoneers from Bux-Mont Pop Warner.  This was the first time in seven years the Monarchs faced a team from this league and unfortunately, the hour plus bus ride from Darby, PA proved to be no contest as the Cannoneers manhandled the Monarchs 27-6.  We played scared today.  We were just intimadated.  That's the bottom line Coach Greg said immediately after the game. I looked in my kids eyes today and I seen wolf.  They was shook after the weigh-in and even after we tired to assure them that every kid made weight.  Unfortunately, our kids for some odd reason thought they were big.  I personally did not but I'm not playing either Coach Tone said.

As far as the game,  they did everything we saw on tape.  Matter fact, the only play we did not see on tape was the naked boot leg which went for a touchdown late in second quarter.  Other than that, it was the exact same.  I thought we did an excellent job of scouting. I thought we had a good game plan going in to this but it just did not materialize on the field today. Its my fault.  I gotta get my kids in a better position to make plays Coach Greg said angerily.

Truth be told, the only player that seem to bring his lunch pale work was Easy Stack aka # 21.  Easy rushed for over 100 yards and scored on the game's last play from scrimmage.  He was a man among boys today and the funniest thing was, he was the smallest kid out there on the field.  Other than that, I'm absolutely shocked at how my kids played Coach Tone barked.

Lansdale forced 3 turnovers and capitalized on all three by scoring touchdowns.  We just can't compete when we make mistakes "WE CAN'T..  Coach Greg stated.  I saw kids missing easy tackles and I seen kids mysteriouly stepping out of the way and purposely missing tackles.  The only good thing about today was we got it all on film.  We will find out who wants to play and who just wants to wear a shirt.  I'll guarentee that.

The Monarchs hit the road next week and play the Cobbs Creek Cats.  Hopefully, after a week of practice, the results will be different.  Only time will tell.  See you next week.

Mt. Airy Bantoms Toople Monarchs 27-12

On a rain soaked Saturday afternoon in Darby, the Monarchs welcome Keystone League power the Mt. Airy Bantoms.  The game which seem awkward at best matched the Monarchs 120's versus the Bantoms 105's.  On the surface, it seem like the monarchs would have the advantage weight wise, but in reality they did not.  The keystones league 105's maximum weight is 135 pounds and the age range is 13-14. Thus, the Bantoms were older, heavier and more physical Coach Greg barked after the game.  I set my kids up for failure today, I really did.  I just wanted the work but truth be told, I put my kids in a bad spot today because I did not fully understand the keystone league rules.  I apologized to kids and my parents afterward.

Next time we play an organization from that league, we will have to get on the scale and the match teams up by age and weight instead of by our respective league weight classes and rules.  No more gentleman's agreements because the Mt Airy coach flat out told us lie. We had fans on both sides yelling ringer.  It could have gotten real ugly real quick for real.  Plain and simple it was an unsafe environment for my kids and I take full responsibility for that.

As far as the game, the Bantoms jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter.  The Monarchs managed to cut the lead to 13-6 on a sweep to A. Gleplay near the end of the third.  He jogged 50 yards untouched on his first run from scrimmage.  Gleplay had a total of 3 rushes for 105 yards and two touchdowns but in the end, the Bantoms were to strong and coasted to a 27-12 victory.   I knew this was going to be a tough opponent Coach Greg stated, but when my kids started complaining that the other team was just to old I knew something was wrong.  My kids rarely complain.

We did not get beat today, they simply played the wrong team played today. Bottom line.  Mt. Airy's 105's age wise matches up with our 145's not our 120's.  I'm not sure if this was deliberate attempt to circumvent the system but it comes very close in my book especially when they told us they played and beat the Blawkhawks from Liberty Pop Warner.  At any rate, I'll look at the tape and see if i can get an idea of where we had breakdowns but at the end, I'm not concerned about this game Coach Tone barked.  We got the Trojans coming in our house next week.  And we will take out our frustrations on them.  They are the next team on the schedule.   End of discussion.

Monarchs Take No Mercy On Scorpions

The Delco Monarchs season opener against league new comer the Golden Mile Scorpions proved to be no contest. The Monarchs quickly flexed there muscles and jumped all over there over matched opponents from Morton, PA.  I loathe games like this.  I really do Coach Greg said afterwards but there on our schedule and all we can do is play the team in front of us.  Today, it was the Scorpions. I take my hat off to Coach Reggie.  He started that organization from the ground up and they are just going through growing pains right now.  They will get better.   All we did today is just get "Bigger Heads"  Coach Tone shouted as he was walking to the parking lot.  We are not that good ourselves. We were sloppy, out of sync, and looked lost from what I can remember Coach Greg barked as the teams were shaking hands.  And after we break down the game tape who else knows what we will see.  We just gotta get back to work on next Tuesday.

The Monarchs scored a host of touchdowns, a saftey and cruised to a 29-0 victory.  From the looks of it, the coaching staff was not happy nor impressed by there team performance.  I know what's on the table.  We have non league contests against Chester, Bristol, No Limit, and the Steelers and believe me it won't be as easy as it was today Coach Tone reminded the ball club.  And Upland and Sharon Hill keeps call for a scrimmages.  Needless to say, these young Monarchs have there work cut out for them in the 2012 football season.  So Stay tuned.

Monarchs Topple Roadrunners

The Kingsessing Road Runners, from Liberty Pop Warner, visited the Delco Monarchs yesterday for only the second time in team history.  And, for the second straight time, the visitors from 49th and Chester  Avenue where given a rude awakening in Delaware County.  The Monarchs, who for most of the preseason, struggled to field the 145 pound weight class looked in mid season form.  I was pleasantly surprised at how we played tonight Coach Gene said especially since we had some disciplinary issues.

The Monarchs pretty much had there way with the Road Runners today Coach Greg added but I saw some things that needed to be corrected.  We were slow getting in and out of the huddle, our defensive end was lining up out of position and center / quarterback exchange wasn't always as smooth as we would like.   We will have to check the tape Coach Tone bark when asked his thoughts of the game.  I can't tell you anything until I see the tape so don't ask!!

The Monarchs 145's start league play next week in Wilmington, Delaware versus league new comers the Pure Talent Gladiators.  The monarchs return 6 starters from last years bunch.  E. Cumming, P. Benson, E. Sheppard III, J. Dweh, G. Subah and A. Thollie.  Plus they have some exciting new comers.

Monarchs vs Oak Lane - Ground Level

On Saturday, Aug 18th the Delco Monarchs hosted there 3rd annual football jamboree. The Monarchs 170lb team scrimmaged the West Oak Lane Wildcats and the Parkside Saints.  Both organizations are members of Liberty Pop Warner which is located in Philadelphia.   As far as the scrimmage, Coach Greg said that the Monarchs held there own against the Wildcats. However, against the Saints we struggled.  I thought coming in Oak Lane would give us fits.  They beat us up pretty good two years ago at there place.  I was pleasantly suprised we went toe to toe with a divison one team.  It was an even game.

As far as the Saints, it was more or less a numbers game.  They had 40 something kids over there.  They simply wore us down.  And, it got a little testee when the Saints players shouted  "We Ain't Tag'n No More". I thought it was funny Coach Greg said shortly after the scrimmage.  But there a helluva team!  There big, fast and strong.  And they have the numbers to do some damage to anybody.  But I'm not worried or concerned at all Coach Greg said.  I wanted somebody to come in our house and rough us a little bit.  Why???  Cuz, I got some kids wit big heads and today that bubble burst.  Now, I wanna see how my kids respond after getting knocked down.  We got the Golden Mile Scorpions week 1.

Monarchs in a Rebuilding Season?

This type of season comes along once in a while. Even a program used to winning and going to the playoffs experience it. Its called rebuilding and it happens everywhere.

Just four years ago, the Colwyn Comets were the talk of the town. The Dynasty Dragons were a doormat. West Oak Lane and West Philly fought for Delco Pop Warner league supremacy. Now its the new kids on the block the No Limit Hurricanes and Dragons duking it out for league honors. The Monarchs have not been relevant. Of course, all of this does not sit well with Monarchs skipper Coach Greg James. Its too much talent in the Boro for us not to be competitive bottom line Coach Greg stated. But we are constantly splitting talent with the Comets and that makes it difficult to compete year in and year out. But Darby is Darby and Colwyn is Colwyn. And Yeadon is more than welcomed in the Monarchs Nation. Thats our area and we let the kids and parents make the decision.

As far as last season, I personally saw the improvement Coach Jamil said. But we still have to get better. We know we have to answer to some outsiders, nonbelievers and even critics. But that doesn't bother us. We hear the negative talk in and out the neighborhood but we refuse to feed into the nonsense. We evaluate ourselves and make moves based on our core values and not what other people think. Lastly the Monarchs aren't going anywhere. We just ask that people in the Boro or in the district come out and support us.

DELCO MONARCHS FOR LIFE.................
