Monarchs Vs Dragons.. What Happened???

For 20 minutes, the showdown for Del Val's League Supremacy had the making of an instant classic - a game that would be remebered for years to come. Yes folks, the undefeated Eastwick Dragons and the once beaten Delco Monarchs were deadlocked at intermission. The score was zero to zero. The Monarchs had found a way to contain the Dragons predictable but effective double wing offense. And, there wasn't any indication that the third and fourth quarter would turn into a onesided affair. But errant play changed everything and the Dragons scored three unanswered touchdowns to take a commanding 19-0 lead. The Monarchs punched in a touchdown as time expired to make the score respectable and the final score was 19-6 when the referee blew the final whistle.

But guess what? The game that could have warranted water cooler discussions ended up being a double forfeit and will go down in the history books as such. Why??? Because of the fight that broke out between the Dragons and the Monarchs after the weigh-in. The chaos, confusion and all the other nonsense started because the Dragons as usual were trying to cheat Monarchs skipper Greg James said. They were stalling prior to the weigh-in. Then when we started, the first Dragon player we weighed did not make the minimum weight of 105 pounds. I don't make rules, but I know them and I follow them coach Tone shouted. And they (Dragons) got mad. We pulled out the PWLS rulebook and it was in black and white print. We verified the minimum weight. So, the weigh-in continued minus one Dragon player as representatives from both teams continued to bicker like children. The next couple of kids made weight and then "BOOM" another Dragon player had a problem. He did not have his birth certificate in there team book. The Dragons agrued about that and requested that they be allowed to go get the participants birth certificate. The Monarchs promptly refused. Its not our fault yall didn't come with the participants proper paper work coach Gene barked. And he's not playing too Coach Greg added!!!

The Monarchs coaching staffed yelled forfeit becasue the Dragons did not have the minimum amount of players which is sixteen. The Dragons coaching staff indicated the Monarchs were scared too play and that we were trying to bend the rules. Next thing you know, cooler heads did not prevail. We started getting it in and boy it was ugly. When the dust settled and order was restored, we played for the sake of the kids but we shouldn't have coach Greg barked after it was all said and done. I should have walked away. My team should have walked away. The Dragons were the ones who were out of control not us. We fed into the nonsense today. And look what happened coach Tone said. It was crazy out there. Someone could have really gotten hurt out there. But I tell you what??? The Dragons won't come up to the county talk'n that scared stuff no more. Bottom line they got wrecked.

Hurricanes Teach Monarchs a Harsh Lesson

The blast was sudden and devastating . But it didn't force a quick evacuation of partisan Hurricanes fans from Baynard Stadium in Wilmington DE. They actually stuck around and watched the Hurricanes punish the Monarchs and hand them the worst defeat in team history since losing to the Olney Gators 40-0 back in 2005. Yes, the Monarchs 2011 playoff bubble burst at the clenched hands of the No Limit Hurricanes who pinned them 46-0.

From the effects, the Monarchs suffered no apparent permanent damage and shed little blood. Just a dream. We had some kids crying and upset on the sideline as the game was ending said Monarchs skipper Greg James. But it happens. What can I say. I know anytime you make the playoffs and are trying to win the "CHIP" there is going to be disappointment when you finally lose. But hey, we are young team and still learning. And truth be told, nobody expect us to be here. Nobody expected us to come this far. And, the score might not indicate it tonight, but we got a good group of kids and I'm already excited about next year.

The 'Caines baffled the Monarchs from the door. They came out in a hurry up offense and dominated the contest from start to finish. They racked up 34 point in the first half and another 22 points in the second half. They scored at will and never let up even when the game was clearly out of reach. "Heck", I still think they are out there running plays one Monarch parent stated on the ride home.

I knew we were going to have our hands full Coach Greg said after the game. But 46 points is a little ridiculous. There kids. At some point in time you would figure that the "Caines would let up, take there foot of the gas or maybe even take some of there starters out Coach Tone said. They chose not to. I mean they have 20 something players on there roster. I lost a lot of respect for that organization today. I thought we was better than that. But I'm not going to complain. I'm not going to file a grievance with the league as per PWLS (Pop Warner Little Scholars) Rules. We will take this one on the chin because my philosophy is this "What comes around goes around". We will be back. Believe that...

MONARCHS TURN BACK STEELERS IN RAIN

The final pulsating seconds were slowly ticking. It was late Wednesday night, a school night, and the rain was coming down off and on for the entire night. The Monarchs were in the First State "Delaware" and fighting for the fourth and final playoff spot and a rematch against the league "King Pin" Eastwick Dragons. It was fourth down and goal for the league newcomer the Hard Knock Steelers who trail 13-6. They lined up in shotgun formation and snapped the ball. It sailed over the quarterback's head. Three Monarchs chased him and boom it was over. The battle tested Monarchs turned back the Steelers and sent them on a permanent winter vacation.

I felt pretty confident going into tonight game Monarchs skipper Greg James said. I watched the film from the first game three times straight. I saw nothing on film that posed a threat except #44. He was clearly there best player but he never ran up the middle. He only ran sweeps. So we changed our defense to "40 Special" and tried to take away the outside. It worked for us tonight. Bottom line.

At first, though, the Steelers threatened to take most of the fun out the game as they capitalized a mistake by Monarchs signal caller G. Rhainey. He turned right and the Monarchs backfield went left. G. Rhainey subsequently pitch the ball right into the hands of #44 of the Steelers. He caught the ball in the air and was off to the races as the Steelers sprinted out to a 6 -0 lead.

But from then on, the Steelers attack stalled. for which much credit must go to the Monarchs defense who was led by S. Pratt, A. Richardson, E. Muse and E. Gleplay. As usual, it became psyched providing source of motivation from which the offense could draw. And with about seven minutes to go in the first half, the offense came through. First it was half back E. Muse on a 60 yard toss. Then it was powerful fullback K. Wilson Jr. who burst up the middle. Both plays resulted in touchdowns giving the Monarchs a 13 - 6 advantage.

During half time, the kids kept telling me that they are keying the full back. So, the objective in the second half was to give the ball to the half back and run out the clock. We have more than one weapon back there Coach Tone said afterward. And if it wasn't raining, we would have went to the air because on film, the Steelers did not respect our passing game. They just pin there ears back and rush in like fools.

With the win, the Monarchs earned the 4th seed in the league playoff which begins Saturday. They will play the Eastwick Dragons in a rematch from last Saturday's contest wihich the Dragons won 19-0.

Dragons Not Tripped up By Monarchs

In terms of futility, few streaks could match the Dragons versus the Monarchs. And for the forth time in four years, the Monarchs found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard against the Dragons as they dropped a hotly contested and turnover plagued ballgame 18-6.

We just could not get it done today Coach Greg said after the game. We just can't get this monkey off our back too. And I don't know why? The Dragons are what we thought they were. They are an average Pop Warner team. Period... But this type of losing hurts. Its gets to players. It grinds them down and can put players in a mental state where they expect to lose. But we will regroup Coach Tone added. We will learn from this and move on to Levittown next week.

The Dragons offense struck quick. They scored on a run off tackle on there first possession and on a bomb on there second possession as they bolted to 12 - 0 lead in the first quarter. The young Monarchs appeared to be reeling and trying to catch there breath, until C. Grinnage scored on a one yard plunge up the gut to make the score a respectable 12-6 at halftime. The two teams exchanged turnovers in the third and fourth periods until the Dragons siege control late in the fourth. The Dragons were on the move and close to the end zone when there fullback appeared to cough up the football. But, an inadvertent whistle by there referee reversed the fumble. The Dragons retained possession and scored on there very next play from scrimmage with less than two minute remaining in the game.

He (referee) blew it Coach Greg shouted after the game. My kid clearly yanked the ball out the Dragons players hands and was well on his way to the end zone before the referee blew the whistle. The Dragons know it, the referee's know it, I know it and anybody who was at 7th and Cedar knows it. I'm not worried about the Dragons. All they do is blitz the "A" and the "B" gap. We well see them them jokers in the "Chip" in two weeks when it counts and we will be ready I guarantee it.

Monarchs Get Rude Awakening at Chester...

Sometimes a team can't catch a break all game. Sometimes a team can't make the most out of the breaks they get. That was the case for the Monarchs last night as they settled for a 13-13 tie in a non league contest against the Chester Panthers from the Delco Football League. Simply stated, as self assured as the Monarchs looked in their 26-6 pasting of the Hark Knock Steelers two weeks ago, they looked like kids on the corner waiting for the light to change against the Chester Panthers.

I am not pleased at all Coach Greg barked after the game. Matter fact, I'm totally dissatisfied. I loathe ties. How is it that, in a battle, you can say let's throw our weapons away and call it a tie? The Monarchs resembled that remark. They through there weapons away. And now they have a symbol of apathy to show for it in the standing. There record is now 3-0-1.

Coach Greg did not edit his sighs. We stunk tonight. That's all. Period. We did not execute. We did not make the most of our opportunities. We simply made too many mistakes. And these mistakes were not in one specific area. We had breakdowns in all three phases of the game (Special teams, Offense and Defense). We live and die in all three aspects of the game. "I feel sorry for them (Chester)," Coach Greg added. They played an excellent game. They were hungry, more determined and they should have won.

Offensively, the Monarchs were led by half back S. Zeon (13 carries - 75 yards) and tight end L. Cambridge (2 receptions - 40 yards - 2TD's). The normally high octane and high powered Monarchs offense was slowed down by three fumbles and an interception on the goal line. The timing was off and they just looked rusty Coach Tone said. The two weeks off absolutely killed us. We was supposed to play Levittown last week. They called us for a game then they subsequently back out stating they need to rest there kids. Go figure???

Next week in the season finale, the Monarchs host the league "KING-PIN" the undefeated Eastwick Dynasty Dragons. They dislike us. And we dislike them. Coach Gene said. Why??? Cuz they got "Big Heads" ova there on 69th and Grovers Ave. They have let a little bit of success go to there head. There not all that...

Game time next week against the Dragons is as follows:

75's - 10am

105's - 12 Noon

135's - 2:00pm

160's - 4:30pm

Come out and support the Monarchs..................

Monarchs Grind Out Victory Over Regulators

It's a good thing that the Monarchs don't care about style points. If so, few would have been handed out after a 6-2 home win over the Upland Regulators. Truth be told, it was an ugly game from an offensive standpoint Coach Greg said but the only thing that matters is that we got the "W" and pushed our record to 2-2. Bottom Line.

The Regulators looked sharp the first nine minutes of the contest and managed to keep the football for the entire first quarter. They drove deep into Monarchs territory but failed to convert on a fourth and goal. The young Monarchs subsequently took over on downs but were ineffective as the visitors forced a three and out situation inside the Monarchs ten yard line. However, instead of punting, Coach Greg opted to take a safety which gave the Regulators a 2-0 lead. I took a safety in that situation because about five years ago we lost in the championship against the Cats because we failed to execute a punt. The decision didn't appear to payoff at first because the Monarchs and Regulators were in a defensive battle up until three minutes left in the 4th quarter. That's when powerful fullback K. Wilson Jr. took a dive 60 yards up the gut for the game winning touchdown. We caught them blitzing in the "A" gap Coach Alex said and we had the right play called at the right time. Fortunately, it worked out for us today Coach Gene added.

For K. Wilson Jr., the touchdown was bitter sweet. Two weeks ago he had the football stripped out his hands as time expired against the Hard Knock Steelers. That play resulted in a touchdown. Couple that with a "Hitting an Unprotected Player" call by the referee and the end result was the Monarchs loss 12-6 to the Steelers. Never the less, he redeemed hiimself today.

Defensively, the Monarchs forced three interceptions. S. Pratt, M. Saccoh, and R. Doe each had a pick while E. Muse, T. Davis and B. Parker also helped contribute to keeping the Upland Regulators offense in check the whole day. The Monarchs 105's have a bye this week and will finish up against the mighty Eastwick Dynasty Dragons. The young Monarchs will try to end a three year organizational losing skid against the Dragons at home on Oct 15th. The Dragons enjoyed a lot of success the last couple of years but they got some "Big Heads" over there on 69th and Grovers Avenue Coach Greg said. Someone has got to burst there bubble. They talk way too much.

Ground Level - Monarchs Steelers

Below is the play that cost the Monarchs the game vs Steelers. Coach Greg was furious and ran accross the field after game and complained to the referee about the blown call. The referee indicated that #32 hit a defense less play when in fact # 32 hit the guard #45 who failed to move when the ball was snapped. This play was perfectly legal Coach Greg later stated. Plus the back judge not the side should have made the call. The referee cheated my kids all day.

Monarchs teach Steelers a Harsh Lesson

Recovering from a week two slap in the face at the hands of the No Limit Hurricanes, the young Monarchs (135's) were hungry to do some winning. And that's exactly what they did putting there offensive weapons on display for league newcomer the Hard Knock Steelers. It feels good to get that first win Coach Gene said. But truth be told, I'm not satisfied. We left some points on the table and we should have shut this team out. We also got a little sloppy down the stretch and gave up a cheap touchdown. Other than that, the Monarchs played a near flawless game and cruised to a 41-6 victory. The Monarchs were lead by running back A. Gleplay and quarterback TJ. Harmon with each scoring a pair of touchdowns apiece.

In the midget (160's) game, the Monarchs dominated from beginning to end and crushed the Steelers 34-6. The Monarchs set the tone early with two quick touchdown and never looked back. I'm happy with win Coach Greg said but we proved nothing today except the fact that we beat an inferior football team today. They were big and slow. And did what we was suppose to do.

The Monarch Midgets are 3-0 and have a date with the Dynasty Dragons looming. In preparation for the dragons the Monarchs (160's) will step out of conference for the next couple weeks to play non league teams yet to be determined. FYI, the Dynasty is not looming, Coach Greg said. Its just another game. There checking for us and talking about "Were Next" nonsense after they beat the "Caines today. Its funny to me Caoch Greg said. We both have an open date on our schedule at the same time but I don't hear them call us for a game. We can settle this on a neutral site and give the fans what they want.

Hurricanes frustrate Monarchs

The Monarchs endured a frustrating day of football Saturday against the No Limit Hurricanes. The 75lbs team forfeited. The 105lb team got slapped around 34-0 and the 135lbs team dropped a tough decision 33-12. The only bright spot of the day was the 160lb team as they eased passed the much larger 'Caines 27-6.

In the Junior Pee Wee game (105lbs), I knew we would be in for a little trouble Coach Greg said. Why? The 'Caines were huge and we haven't seen a team that big since we played West Oak Lane last year. I think they had around 25 players and about five or six of them were under 100 pounds. Matter fact, the only kids they had under 100 pounds were there older/lighters which by rule can not weigh more that 94 pounds padded up. Bottom line size mattered in this contest Coach Gene said. Couple that with the fact that the Monarch defense spent most of the afternoon on the field and you got the perfert formula for disaster. I looked at the game tape. And no disrespect to the 'Caines but they did not do anything special. We just simply missed tackles and lined up out of position. We made it easy for them. Thus we certainly deserved the whooping we got on Saturday Coach Greg said. And like I said before, we've just got a lot of work ahead of us .

In the Junior Midget (135lb) game, the Monarchs actually jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the 'Caines. But as predicted by offensive line coach JD, the storm came and with it came 27 unanswered points. By the time the Monarchs responded with a 60 yard TD run by A. Gleplay, the Monarchs were facing a three touchdown deficit. We had our opportunities to change the game Coach Gene said but negative plays such as sacks and turnovers simply killed us. Even a spectacular one handed interception by E. Glibi was not enough to motivate the young Monarchs.

Well folks, its gut check time around Monarch nation as this week they prepare to face league newcomer the Hard Knock Steelers from Christina, Delaware. I heard they had a pretty rough weekend against the Dragons. But in case you forgot, were not them. We play to totally different styles of football. I'm not saying ones better than the other because only time will tell. I just like the hand I got this year and I think we got something for that double wing / power I offense they run down there on 69th street.

E. Gbili one handed interception!!!

Monarchs vs Hurricanes - Inside Access

On Saturday, the Delco Monarchs will entertain the No Limit Hurricanes. Now, on the surface, this seems like any other Delaware Valley Pop Warner game. But, truth be told it's not. According to Coach Meat from the Hurricanes, they feel disrespected. They blanked Chester last year 35-0. And they took the Dynasty into overtime before falling in the league championship game. So yes folks, the Hurricanes have a chip on there shoulder. Especially since they are returning nearly the whole team from last year.

The Monarchs on the other hand think they are the team to beat in the Del- Val. And, according to Coach Gene, they are returning at least fifteen starters from last year's 120 team whose only loss came too the Dynasty. We are big, fast and strong and the Hurricanes will see this Saturday.

Bottom line, we missed the playoffs last year because of paper work coach Greg said. So we too have a chip on our shoulders. We too have something to prove also.
We know the Hurricanes are comming to play. We know the Hurricanes play the game the right way. So it should be very interesting. I think the team who makes the least mistakes is going to win this contest Coach Gene said. On the other hand offensive line Coach JD of the Hurricanes stated his team will do there talking on the field. He believes the Monarchs are trying to convenice themselves they will survive the Hurricane that's coming to Darby.

Folks, its should be interesting this Saturday at Penn Wood Middle School with the games set to begin at 10:00am. See you at the field.

Monarchs 105's Dismantle Trojans

With rivarly games, most people usually don't know what to expect. However, in the case of the Monarchs and Trojans these games have been hotly contested over the last few years with the Trojans holding a slight advantage. Yesterday's annual showdown yielded a slightly different results as the Monarchs waxed the Trojans 32 - 0.

"I thought we played our game" Coach Greg said. We ran the ball a little bit. We threw the ball a little bit. Truth be told, I just didn't want to go overboard one way or another. And outside of the fumble by T. Harmon, my kids looked sharp today. But we've got a lot of work ahead of us especially with the No Limit Hurricanes coming to the "Boro" next week and teams like the Cats and the Dragons looming.

The Monarchs defense which dominated early and often forced a turnover by the Trojans on the third play of the game which resulted in a 60 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Offensively, the Monarchs were led by powerfull fullback K. Wilson Jr who had two towndowns and close to 100 yards rushing on 7 attempts. Quarterback, G. Rhaney and halfback T. Harmon also pitched in with a touchdown a piece.

Next up for the Delco Monarchs are the No Limit Hurricanes from Wilmington Delaware. In most people minds, at least the ones who follow Monarch football, this game is a revenge game because the Hurricanes put the Monarchs out the playoffs last year when they escaped with a 25-18 victory. The game albeit is between the 105's and not the 160's but the feeling is still the same. "They put us out the playoffs and we need to redeem ourselves organizationally " Coach Gene said. Bottom line.

Game time next is as follows:

10am - 75's

12 noon - 105's

2pm - 135's

4:30 - 160's

Game Location: Penn Wood Middle School 7th and Cedar Avenue - Darby

Come out and support the home team... Go Monarchs..............

Pop Warner Request Meeting???

Out of nowhere, I get a phone call. Then boom!!! I get an email. Its from league president Raymnd Barnes. Yup, as expected, we get a meeting request from Pop Warner's national office to discuss among other things Chester Township, boundaries & territories, waivers for kids playing in our league who live in Philadelphia and recruiting kids in Liberty Pop Warner (the Philadelphia City League). Are you serious??? Here we go again. Another trip to Langhorne PA aka Sesame Place aka the Headquarters of Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. Why??? Because Chester is unhappy?? Two years ago we let them in our league and they have been nothing but a headache. To be honest, I thought they would be good for our league at first but there always complaining about this or complaining about that. They never want to take responsibility for there own actions. They just want to point fingers at the executive board or the league itself. Truth be told, Delaware Valley Pop Warner is not a perfect league. We have some issues. Cheating, forfeited games and the referees are some of the biggest complaints. But those issues are very much correctable. We just have to work together as a group and every organization should be held accountable to make the league better a place. Bottom line. And I rather play in Delaware County then the city of Philadelphia. Its just safer. No riots!!! No fights!!! Just good old fashion youth football.

Addition By Subtraction

In a bold move, the Chester Township Cougars at yesterday's league meeting decided to leave Delaware Valley Pop Warner. This move was expected by executive board and to fill there void, the league will add the Hard Knock Steelers from New Castle County Delaware thus having no overall affect on the league. At this time, it is not known what league the Cougars will be joining in the 2011 football / cheer season. The Monarchs wish them well and good luck in all there future endeavors.

Monarchs Junior Midgets The Team 2 Beat???

Coach Alex and the Mitey Mite Team 2010

Remember where you heard it first!!! The Delco Monarchs 135's are the team to beat in the Delaware Valley Pop Warner according to coach Greg... Yes sir!!! I said it and matter fact you can quote me. I know I got the best junior midget's this year without a doubt. Now all we have to do is go out and prove it. And we will...

What about the Dynasty?? First of all I don't respect any team or organization that has to cheat to win. Now with that being said, the Monarchs have never and I quote "NEVER" been caught cheating. The Dynasty on the other hand have been caught with middle school players and an all star player on there team roster the last two years. This is illegal. So to me, they ain't no Dynasty, they are just "Dying Nasty" over there on 69th and Groovers Ave. Hell, I even got an email from one of there parents about there violation. My response: Look in the Pop Warner Rule Book.

What about Chester?? Huh??? C-Pride who always cries!!!! Man them dudes got some "Big Heads" over there on Elbright and Green. But I give it to them, they had buzz when the first started but now they just average. Hint.. Hint.. We are use to the speed game. Hit'em Hard and they either fumble or step out of bounds. Now all they have to do is stop complaining and follow the rules. What rule??? September 15th is the deadline to complete registration. No if's, and's or but's. And any player registered after that date makes your roster illegal. And yes, nothing has changed for the 2011 season.

Coach Greg, you know your giving your the Dynasty and Chester bulletin board material by saying all this stuff. To be honest, I don't care. They don't like us and we don't like them. And it's not personal.. Its just football people. Truth be told, we are friends... We are just not so friendly when we are on the gridiron and competing against each other. But after the game is over and the battle is either won or loss we go back to being responsible adults.... Why?? Because its really not that deep..

Junior Midget 2011 Schedule

System Analysis - Inside the Monarchs

Coach Rodney, Coach Jamil, & Coach Mark looking perplexed!!!

If you listen to Coach Greg speak, and sometimes its hard not too, the 2010 Monarchs football season might be like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole. But the thing that stands out the most from a sideline prospective is the Monarchs simply did not have enough coaches. Well, to fill that void, the Monarchs enlisted the services of Coach Wayne Raison formerly of the Bensalem Cowboys. How did that happen? To be honest, me and Wayne just kept in contact over the years Coach Greg said. We always talked about our epic wars on the gridiron and we always talked strategy and philosophy. Couple that with the fact that we share some of the same football values, it was inevitable that one day we would coach together.

Although all the logistics have not been officially worked out, I'm 95 percent confident that Wayne will be sporting royal purple and old gold in the 2011 Monarchs football season. He just has to clear somethings up with his family first and its a done deal. Coach Wayne will either be the Head Coach or Assistant Head Coach of the 160 pound team. And, just in case you forgot, his Bensalem Cowboys went 7-1 in there final year of competition in the old Delco Pop Warner Football league. He owns victories over West Oak Lane, the North Philly Aztecs and the West Philly Panthers from Liberty Pop Warner. From what I can remember, his defense was very aggressive and his offense was explosive. This guy can flat out coach and we should see some immediate results Coach Greg said.

When interviewed, Coach Wayne only asked one question. Do the Trojans still cheat? Yup!!!! Coach Greg said. Matter fact, you can add the Dynasty Dragons to that list too? They have been caught cheating two years in a row. Wow!!! What about Chester???? Nah, not really they just complain a lot because they can't get there books right before September 15th deadline.
