Monarchs Topple Roadrunners

The Kingsessing Road Runners, from Liberty Pop Warner, visited the Delco Monarchs yesterday for only the second time in team history.  And, for the second straight time, the visitors from 49th and Chester  Avenue where given a rude awakening in Delaware County.  The Monarchs, who for most of the preseason, struggled to field the 145 pound weight class looked in mid season form.  I was pleasantly surprised at how we played tonight Coach Gene said especially since we had some disciplinary issues.

The Monarchs pretty much had there way with the Road Runners today Coach Greg added but I saw some things that needed to be corrected.  We were slow getting in and out of the huddle, our defensive end was lining up out of position and center / quarterback exchange wasn't always as smooth as we would like.   We will have to check the tape Coach Tone bark when asked his thoughts of the game.  I can't tell you anything until I see the tape so don't ask!!

The Monarchs 145's start league play next week in Wilmington, Delaware versus league new comers the Pure Talent Gladiators.  The monarchs return 6 starters from last years bunch.  E. Cumming, P. Benson, E. Sheppard III, J. Dweh, G. Subah and A. Thollie.  Plus they have some exciting new comers.

Monarchs vs Oak Lane - Ground Level

On Saturday, Aug 18th the Delco Monarchs hosted there 3rd annual football jamboree. The Monarchs 170lb team scrimmaged the West Oak Lane Wildcats and the Parkside Saints.  Both organizations are members of Liberty Pop Warner which is located in Philadelphia.   As far as the scrimmage, Coach Greg said that the Monarchs held there own against the Wildcats. However, against the Saints we struggled.  I thought coming in Oak Lane would give us fits.  They beat us up pretty good two years ago at there place.  I was pleasantly suprised we went toe to toe with a divison one team.  It was an even game.

As far as the Saints, it was more or less a numbers game.  They had 40 something kids over there.  They simply wore us down.  And, it got a little testee when the Saints players shouted  "We Ain't Tag'n No More". I thought it was funny Coach Greg said shortly after the scrimmage.  But there a helluva team!  There big, fast and strong.  And they have the numbers to do some damage to anybody.  But I'm not worried or concerned at all Coach Greg said.  I wanted somebody to come in our house and rough us a little bit.  Why???  Cuz, I got some kids wit big heads and today that bubble burst.  Now, I wanna see how my kids respond after getting knocked down.  We got the Golden Mile Scorpions week 1.
